Downwinders Appeal Rejected by Supreme Court

Posted: Updated:

HANFORD, Wash. - The US Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Hanford
contractors Du Pont, General Electric and UNC Nuclear Industries.

The ruling could clear the way for a settlement with up to 2,000 people exposed to radiation
during the Manhattan Project and the early years of the Cold War.

Dubbed downwinders, the men, women, and families have spent nearly two decades trying to win compensation for thyroid cancer and other conditions that they say were caused by the exposure.
