RICHLAND, Wash-- In addition to ice on the roads there's other ice that the emergency services office is worried about in the Yakima River.
Large chunks of ice are floating down stream. Within the week the river could completely freeze.
Even if it looks safe no one should walk on it. The ice in past year's has never been strong enough for ice skating or walking on.
"People think if it's covered with ice you can walk on it. Now that's not true and we don't want anyone to fall through the ice. Heat comes right out of your body and you can suffer from hypothermia and if you don't get out and get attention immediately it can be life threatening," said Steve Sautter, Benton County Emergency Services.
Ice jams in the river could also cause smaller coves to flood.
