SEATTLE (AP) - New University of Washington football coach Steve Sarkisian yesterday announced the hiring of the first three assistants on his Huskies' staff.
They are Jim Michalczik, Demetrice Martin and Johnny Nansen.
Sarkisian says he expects more staff announcements during the next week.
Former California line coach Michalczik was named offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Martin, a former colleague of Sarkisian's at Southern California, will coach the defensive backs. Idaho line coach Nansen is the new special teams coach.
Chris Tormey, who has been the Huskies' linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator for five years, will not be retained. So all of fired coach Tyrone Willingham's staff is now gone. The 2008 Huskies became the first Pac-10 team to have an 0-12 record.
