YAKIMA--A local car dealer is not afraid of the economic recession. Instead, he is expanding his business.
Stewart Subaru is opening a new used car lot, "Buy Here, Pay Here." It'll be on the corner of 16th Ave. and Fruitvale Blvd. where Del Harris Motors currently is.
The Harris family said Yakima's used car market is too competitive, but Frank Stewart thinks his lot will be able to thrive thanks to the name support of Subaru, and their plan to sell interest-free cars.
"It should be an opportunity for us to sell more cars and help the public out," Pat Beeson, who will run the lot, said. "The people that can't get a car through bank financing at a late model car dealership can come to us, and we can get it done for them."
Despite what have been bad times for many dealerships, Stewart Subaru said they are wrapping up one of their best years ever. Del Harris Motors decided to close after high gas prices and the credit collapse crippled the market for used cars.
