Burglaries Are Up In Benton County. More Security in Kennewick.
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- On October 19th, there was a home invasion reported at la Serena Apartments in Kennewick.
Three days later, they were hit again.
"We talked to the Kennewick Police Department, they said that it wasn't just us that was getting hit, it was a lot of other places as well," said Rebecca Staley.
And they're after more than just apartments.
"We did have six car break-ins in one night, and that's when we decided to take further action," said Staley.
They've added more security to patrol the complex after hours. But this isn't the only place in the county being affected.
Lieutenant Brian White says since early November Benton County has seen 22 different incidents, from Benton City all the way to the Yakima County Line.
"Homes, prowls for vehicles, also out buildings, shops, things like that, forced entry where people have been kicking in doors, or going inside and stealing property," said Lieutenant Brian White, with the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
Most along Rothrock and County Line Road. White says they have extra patrols, including unmarked cars in the area, but warns residents not to fall in a trap.
"They'll walk up and knock on the door, see if anybody answers, and if anybody does then they give the cover story of I'm looking for work or I'm looking for so and so," said White.
