Pasco Man Wanted For Kidnapping Arrested in California
PASCO, Wash.-- 48-year-old Jose Roel Veliz Jr. was wanted in Pasco for first degree custodial interference.
Police say they've been looking for Veliz since August this year. Back then detectives say he took his 4 year old daughter from her mother's custody.
The mother Lorena Veliz thought Jose was possibly in Mexico with the young girl.
On Tuesday afternoon he was arrested at the San Isidro border crossing near San Diego, California. Pasco police say he had the four year old girl with him, while he was trying to get back into the country.
"Obviously there was some indications that he might have gone to Mexico, so we put in information for border crossings, and that's how he ultimately ended up being taken into custody," said Captain Jim Raymond, with the Pasco Police Department.
"It's a felony, it's a serious crime, it's been filed by the Franklin county prosecutor's office," said Raymond.
KNDU talked to Lorena Veliz's attorney with the Northwest Justice Project. She tells KNDU the four year old is in protective services in California.
Arrangements are being made to bring the girl back to her mother.
