No. 8 Gonzaga Hopes to Rebound Against Texas Southern
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Gonzaga Bulldogs weren't up to the challenge of beating the Arizona Wildcats at Phoenix last Sunday. The loss dropped the Zags from No. 4 to No. 8 in this week's The Associated Press poll.
At 6 tonight at Spokane, the 7-1 Zags try to rebound from that 69-64 defeat when they face Texas Southern.
It'll be a tuneup game for the Zags to Saturday's Battle In Seattle at KeyArena at 1 p.m. against No. 2 Connecticut.
After eight games this season, Josh Heytvelt leads Gonzaga in scoring (15.0 points) and rebounds (6.1), while Austin Daye is averaging 13.4 points and Matt Bouldin 11.5 points. In the Arizona game, Daye scored 22 points, but Heytvelt stumbled with six points on 1-for-6 shooting and Zags point guard Jeremy Pargo was held to four points on 2-for-8 shooting.
