KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Kennewick City Council is interviewing candidates to fill the council position left vacant by Jim Beaver who resigned after being elected  Benton County Commissioner.

In the special meeting at 5:00 p.m. Thursday night at Kennewick City Hall, council members are going to elect the person to fill the Ward 3 Vacancy.  Each of the ten candidates will be interviewed one by one by the remaining city council members.  After the interviews, the council members will meet in executive session to vote.  The elected council member will then take his or her oath of office.

Whoever is selected will finish the rest of former Mayor Jim Beaver's term and will then have to run for office come November of 2009 to continue working in that position.

After filling the open seat the council will then choose the next Mayor in January 2009.
