Yakima's Toys For Tots Drive More Successful Than National Efforts
YAKIMA--Collection numbers for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots drive are down nationwide, but not here in Central Washington.
The Marines held one of their last drives before Christmas at Sunfair Chevrolet in Yakima today, braving the cold for three hours. This year's drive struggled in the early going, but it has picked up recently.
"A lot of the drives that we've done in the past week have really helped us out in meeting a lot of the goals and the demand that we've had," Major Jared Duff, U.S. Marine Corps, said.
Major Duff said the number of families requesting toys is higher than in years past.
The Marines are still collecting toys from drop-off boxes throughout our area. They'll be delivering the toys to needy children up until Christmas Eve.
