Weekend's Snowfall Puts Plowers To Work

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--Heavy snowfalls make life miserable for almost everyone, but for plowing businesses, the snow is a blessing.

DPR Contracting is one of many plow companies working around the clock and cashing in after the Yakima area got snowed under Saturday night.

While the weather certainly scares off a lot of potential customers, it's the plowers' jobs to make sure those who need to get to the stores can.

"[It's] right before Christmas, the shoppers are out,"  Scott St. John, DPR Contracting, said.  "The shopping facilities have to be cleared.  If they're not, the shoppers won't go and that's a tremendous loss of revenue [for businesses.]"

Sundays are especially busy for the plowers.   They also have to clear church lots.

Even though the snow plows work throughout the night, plowers say it is best to wait until the afternoon to go out on snowy days.   Road and parking lot conditions are much safer then.
