Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell Opens in Early February

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash.-- New information about the expansion of a prison in Connell. Staff at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center gave KNDU a sneak peek.

The newly constructed prison will house more than two thousand inmates. The first 256 will arrive in February, then 65 more will be added each week after that.

A corrections officer describes how one aspect of security works.

"Green means it's secure, means that it's closed, red, I've opened them so that you folks could get inside, the red means that it's open, it alarms me that there's a potential breech," said John Martinez, a Corrections Officer at Coyote Ridge.

The prison is scheduled to open on February 3rd., 2009. Right now about half the staff are working there.

Inmates will come from in and out of state.
