Woman Gets Pinned in Car Accident on Yakima's Icy Roads
YAKIMA, Wash. - A woman had to be rescued early Wednesday morning after rolling her car off the edge of a road, firefighters said.
The woman thought she was still on the same street she was driving on when her car fell over the edge onto another street below. The accident trapped one of her arms underneath the car through a window, while she remained inside the car. She told 911 dispatchers she was near a hospital so Yakima Fire and Police officials looked around both area hospitals but could not find her.
Rocky Willette was on the scene for the Yakima Fire Department. He says the woman's car was actually near the intersection of Fecther Road and Scenic Drive.
"Fire dispatch worked with the cell phone company and was able to find her position using the GPS in her cell phone and located her here on Scenic Drive."
The woman has been taken to the hospital and is being treated for her injuries, Willette said. Yakima police will continue the investigation into the accident.
Firefighters say this is just another reminder of the importance to be extra cautious when driving in the current weather conditions.
