YAKIMA--Two Yakima men are homeless after a midday fire tears through their house. Firefighters said the house at 908 S. 8th St. is a complete loss.
Only one man was home at the time. He was outside when the fire started.
Firefighters said it started accidentally. As of 1:00 p.m. Friday, they were still trying to find the fuse box and learn what caused the fire.
"The ceiling collapsed in that area, so there's debris," Battalion Chief Joe Riel, Yakima Fire Department, said. "They're trying to get to the lowest part, down to the floor, and see where the lowest burn is. That's usually an indicator of where the fire started."
Fire crews got the call late and didn't make it in time to save the house. Damages were estimated at $50,000.
One man went to the hospital with stomach pains, but firefighters say those appeared to be stress-related
