YAKIMA--The Sundome Shootout brings good basketball, but it's also good business.
The annual Christmastime tournament brings players, fans, and family from all over Washington to Yakima. The first shootout only had four teams, but there are 28 squads present this year from all over the state. It's a boon to the local economy.
"We do bring some out-of-town teams that stay in the motels and eat in local restaurants," organizer Doug Burge said. "It's good for the Sundome, too. This place would probably be vacant right now if we didn't have a tournament."
The two-day shootout has grown every year. This year there are games from noon until almost midnight. Burge doesn't think it can keep expanding because there are so many teams.
