Increase in People Filing For Unemployment Benefits in Tri-Cities
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Staff at WorkSource Tri-Cities say they've seen almost a 35% to 40% increase in the number of people applying and receiving unemployment this year.
They say they're still seeing nearly 650 people through the doors everyday looking for a job. Most layoffs have come from the construction industry.
Staff at WorkSource say Washington's trust fund for unemployment benefits is still healthy right now. If you plan on applying expect to be on the phone for quite some time.
And make sure to have all your information ready.
"We're almost at full capacity at our tele centers that take those calls, so what we're hearing for people applying is that it's taking them a long time to get through, so we're asking them to be patient, so when you call find a place where you can be on the phone for about an hour," said Todd Dixon, Area Director for WorkSource Tri-Cities.
You can also apply for unemployment benefits online, and staff at WorkSource say that could be a lot faster.
