Report Coming on Yakama Cold Cases

Posted: Updated:

TOPPENISH, Wash. (AP) - A draft report is coming out later this
month probing 16 unsolved deaths on the Yakama Indian Reservation.

Federal investigators decided to review about Yakama cold case
files about two years ago. They started with the deaths of 16
women, because they were under the most mysterious circumstances.

U.S. Attorney Jim McDevitt in Spokane says a draft report on
those 16 cases will be released to all law-enforcement agencies
involved by the middle of the month.

The FBI has jurisdiction on all serious crimes involving Native
Americans on tribal lands, but some tribal members have questioned
whether the agency is fulfilling its duty on the reservation.
