WA Lawmakers Considering Bill Against Smoking in Cars with Children Present
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Washington lawmakers are considering a proposal making it illegal for people to smoke in their car if their children are inside.
This same smoking bill was introduced last year, and didn't pass. The bill would make it illegal to smoke in your car if you have children under 18 with you.
Health organizations and law enforcement officers are in support of the bill, citing health concerns for children and the safety of drivers who may be distracted by smoking.
The bill would make it a secondary offense, like the hands-free phone law, police can't pull you over just for smoking in your car, but could write you a ticket if you're pulled over for another violation.
