Can Growers Afford Big Ticket Items at Ag Show in Pasco?
PASCO, Wash. -- The 2009 Ag Show features giant tractors and combines worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. But can farmers afford the big ticket items despite a slumping economy?
Walt Neff, Chairman of the Ag Show, said many local farmers are still doing "ok" financially because of recent successful growing seasons. Neff said farmers can generally afford the newer model tractors, especially if their current equipment is in good shape.
"If they're trading in something that's so old and so worn out, they're not going to get a lot for it and that would be a little tough", said Neff. "But you have to have new equipment to make things work".
Neff said there are also many financing options available to farmers for new equipment.
The 2009 Ag Show runs Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the TRAC in Pasco.
