Late Rep. Hailey Inducted into Agriculture Hall of Fame
PASCO, Wash.-- The late Representative Steve Hailey was inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame Tuesday.
Representative Steve Hailey passed away just over a week ago after battling colon cancer for nearly a year. He was nominated to be inducted into the Ag Hall of Fame months ago, and Tuesday night his wife accepted the award on his behalf. The ceremony was emotional for many, especially those who knew him best like Dick Moore, who grew up with Hailey and remembers him fondly.
Moore says, "Steve was a real gentleman, cattleman, and he'd do anything for anybody. Farmer, community man, legislator. He was just an all-around gentleman for the whole community and his country, he served in Vietnam."
All of those attributes are the reason he was inducted into the Ag Hall of Fame. A selection committee member says that in order to be in the Hall of Fame, it requires not only dedication to agriculture, but to the community as well.
