WA Seat Belt Use Up for Fifth Straight Year

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash.--  A new study by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission shows that Washington state's seat belt use rate is up, for the 5th straight year.

The 2008 survey shows 96.5% of people in Washington are wearing their seat belts. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission thinks the nighttime seat belt patrols might be a factor for this rise.

A spokesman from the National Highway Traffic safety Administration says in 1986, only 36% of people wore their seat belts.
