SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Gonzaga Bulldogs are close to cracking the Top 25 in The Associated Press college basketball poll again.
The Zags weren't in the Top 25 again yesterday, but they were close, receiving 137 votes. Michigan, the No. 25 team, had 153 votes. The West Coast Conference doesn't doesn't have a team in the Top 25.
They've been as high as No. 4 in the poll this season.
Gonzaga opened defense of its West Coast Conference title with a 67-50 victory over University of Portland last Saturday night at Spokane. The 10 and 4 Zags remain in Spokane this week, facing Santa Clara at 6 p.m. Thursday and University of San Francisco at 5 p.m. Saturday in WCC games.
After 14 games this season, the Zags have four players scoring in double figures; Josh Heytvelt (14.9), Matt Bouldin (12.5), Austin Daye (12.4) and Steven Gray (10.9). Heytvelt and Daye are Gonzaga's top two rebounders with 6.6 and 6.5 averages, respectively.
