Qatar deal could be start of International Race Circuit for Unlimited Hydroplanes

Posted: Updated:

The deal to race boats in Qatar has been under discussion for well over a year.  "We have a deal for three years," said ABRA's Sam Cole.  Specific details are still being worked out.

Cole said other deals are in the discussion phase.  "We have additional interest in Abu Dhabi and Dubai," he said.  "We're also working in several European and Asian countries."

The deal with Qatar is seen as a much needed shot in the arm for the Unlimtied Hydroplane racing circuit, raising the profile of the sport to unprecedented heights and opening up an international audience for the fastest boats on water.

"We may have two circuits at some point," said Cole.  There could be a U.S. circuit and an international circuit.

"We can't thank you enough," U-16 owner Erick Ellstrom told Sam Cole and the ABRA during a conference call with media to announce the deal.
