Suquamish Tribal Council Member Arrested In Theft Case
SUQUAMISH, Wash. (AP) - A Suquamish Tribal Council member has been arrested by tribal authorities.
The arrest of 59-year-old Linda Holt followed an investigation about unauthorized charges on a government credit card. Holt was the Suquamish Tribal Council secretary.
She was arrested this week by tribal police on suspicion of 16 counts of second-degree theft.
Holt was the subject of a seven-week investigation into her use of a tribal credit card after fellow members alleged she had taken more than $6,800 in cash advances from seven casinos in New Mexico, California and Nevada and Washington, including the Clearwater Casino.
Her credit card was suspended after the allegations and the tribe's Elders Council asked her to step down.
Holt was initially booked into Kitsap County jail, but she was released on her own recognizance yesterday afternoon.
