A Deal On Wheels For Eastgate Fifth Graders

Posted: Updated:
Kennewick, WA- Would you work a little harder if your boss rewarded you with a new set of wheels?

That's what Archibald's Auto Dealership is offering fifth graders at Eastgate Elementary School.

Six boys and six girls who show the most improvement in math and reading this year will receive a brand new bike.

Eastgate Principal Mark Stephens says a little incentive makes a big difference in the kids' grades. "Some of the kids have grown as many as 20 to 30 points from the beginning of the year to now," Stephens says. "The average student across the country grows nine points in the third grade. So we've got third graders who've grown over 20 points growth in the short time we've been in school this year."

The new bikes will be awarded at the end of the school year, just in time for summer vacation.
