YAKIMA--The Super Bowl isn't the only big event of the weekend for Yakima sports fans! The 32nd annual Yakima Volleyball Jamboree started today.
145 teams and their family and friends arrived in town last night and will be here all weekend for the action. A tournament official said all the teams bring about 4500 visitors in Yakima.
That's great news for local businesses. A coach from Goldendale said her group puts a lot of money into Yakima's economy.
"Most of us stay here and during the day we eat here," Angela Hoffman said. "We all go out to dinner at night, go to the movies, go shopping, that kind of thing."
A tournament rep said the Jamboree typically brings in about $750,000 to the Yakima Valley.
