New Aerial Fire Truck For Kennewick Fire Department

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The Kennewick Fire Department recently got some new equipment. The new truck is called Aerial 6-2 and it's been in Kennewick for about a month.

Firefighters say their old truck is a little over 16 years old. Both trucks are about the same length, but the new one is 13 inches taller.

The price tag was around $700 to $800 thousand. It's money that came from a city fund.

"Several years ago they started a replacement fund for our fire trucks, so that there's money in this account, so when the trucks become too old, and need to be taken out of service, we have the money to purchase a new one and that's what we've done," said Brian Cole, Training Captain with the Kennewick Fire Department.

Captain Cole says firefighters already know how to use a truck like this one, but they have to get used to some new controls.

Training will go on for the next few days. Firefighters say the old aerial truck will be sold to another and probably smaller fire department.

They're hoping to get between $140 $150 thousand.
