KENNEWICK, Wash. - A man allegedly tied a rope around his girlfriend's neck and wouldn't left her leave a home on the 2800 Block of South Tacoma Street in Kennewick last Friday.

Tuesday afternoon the suspect 35-year-old James Vann turned himself into the Benton County Jail after five days on the run.

The alleged violent attack was interrupted by the victim's mother who showed up at the house where her daughter was being held.

Vann apparently took off and had been missing for days.

Police describe the domestic violence in this case as extreme.

Officer Stan Howard with Kennewick Police said, "At one point during the assault he told her he was going to hang her and then kill her family.  The level of violence is what to me is what makes it so extreme."

Police said the suspect and the victim have a child together.
