Coroner says man found in Sunnyside vineyard died from gunshot wound

Posted: Updated:

SUNNYSIDE--The man found badly burned in a Sunnyside vineyard last week died from a gunshot wound, Yakima County Coroner Maurice Rice tells KNDO.  His death is being ruled a homicide.

The coroner said the autopsy showed the man was shot once and bled to death.   He couldn't tell KNDO where the bullet wound was because of the ongoing police investigation.  The bullet was not recovered.

The body was found in a vineyard near Arrowsmith Road in Sunnyside on Thursday, February 12.

The body was burned so badly that police still don't know who the man is, just that he was between 15 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighed 135 pounds.

Rice said he can check the man's dental records if police do come up with a possible identity.

No suspects are known at this time.  Calls to the Yakima Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned.
