KENNEWICK, Wash.-- After a lengthy lawsuit and some budget cuts, La Clinica is laying off a number of workers.
Staff say they've had to lay off 17 employees in the last couple weeks. They say salaries are the biggest expense on their budget.
They've already tried cutting back on supplies and lay offs were their last option. Also for the last two years they've spent a lot of money dealing with a lawsuit from a former board member.
All those allegations are dismissed. La Clinica staff say all these hits to their budget have not affected the number of people using their services or their quality of care.
"That was the determining factor in these lay offs, we would not do anything that would impact our patients and the ability for them to receive services from the clinic," said Linda Gustafson, Chairman of the La Clinica Board of Directors.
The chairman of the board also says none of their grants have been affected. La Clinica recently got close to $2 million in federal money.
They're not planning on laying off any more workers in the near future.
