Seahawks Must Make A Decision About Leroy Hill Today
RENTON, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Seahawks must decide today what to do with star free-agent-to-be linebacker Leroy Hill.
They can use their franchise tag on him, at a cost of $8.304 million for the one-year tender. They could opt instead of the transition tag, at a cost of $7.480 million. They could try to sign him to a long-term contract before the Feb. 27 deadline. Or, they could let him test the market, and try to match any offer he receives.
By using the franchise tag, any team signing Hill to an offer sheet would have to surrender two first-round draft choices as compensation if the Seahawks decided not to match.
By using the transition tag, the Seahawks would have right of first refusal on any offer sheet.
