Senator Maria Cantwell Discusses Affordable Housing in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash-- With the housing crisis on everyone's mind, Senator Maria Cantwell talked about the stimulus package at Worksource Wednesday.
Yakima is an appropriate place for Cantwell to visit because of the high homelessness rate. Currently, there are 800 families on the wait list for affordable housing in Yakima. Cantwell hopes to get construction rolling on affordable housing projects.
"The fact that for these units that are created it also will create hundreds of jobs, that's a very positive thing because that money will be stimulative to the Yakima County economy," said Cantwell.
Cantwell said the goal is to get these affordable housing projects going and that will attract private investing, utilize local workers and get people back on their feet.
