RICHLAND, Wash. - A man apparently tried to scam a business in Richland on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the suspect went to the Island View Market and Deli and tried to get the owner to pay him cash for advertising for the Holiday Inn Express.
The suspect said he could only take cash.
The owners of the Island View called the Holiday Inn Express and spoke with the general manager. The two groups realized there was a scam going on and got the police involved.
Authorities want people in the community to be aware of this situation.
Mark Kerber is the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Richland. He said he is very angry someone is trying to scam people in our community.
Kerber said, "We're frustrated and we certainly hope that no one paid this gentlemen cash to advertise in a directory that doesn't exist ... as the general manager I am furious."
KNDU was told authorities are looking at security video.
The suspect is described as an older male. They say he was driving a red pick-up truck with broken window.
Call police if you are approached by someone trying to sell ads for the Holiday Inn Express.
