Engineering Day Provides Hands-On Learning Experience for Kids
YAKIMA--What's the best way to get kids interested in engineering? Get them involved!
That was the goal of Saturday's Engineering Day at Yakima Valley Community College. Teachers wanted to show kids that math and science can be fun.
"They're not thinking about it in the school setting [and] having to do it because they're required to," Engineering Day organizer Natalie Martinkus said. "[Kids are] making the roller coaster to see that the marble goes faster. It's crucial to hands-on learning."
Along with the coasters, kids built towers, bridges and domes out of everyday items.
More than 100 elementary school-age kids attended the event.
