Man Involved in SWAT Stand-off Facing Assault Charges
KENNEWICK, Wash-- The Benton County Sheriff's Office says the 41-year-old man who threatened suicide will be charged with first degree assault after pointing a rifle at one deputy.
Officers were at the suspect's home for nearly eight hours Friday night before shooting him with a less-lethal bean bag gun.
Several neighbors had to evacuate their homes. On Saturday, they opened up about the frightening scene.
"We actually heard the gunshot where they shot him with the bean bag shooter, so it was really intense," says one neighbor. "We were kind of scared but we felt pretty safe with all the police there. We figured they had it under control."
Officers say they responded to a similar situation with the man last month.
