Changes Coming To US395 and SR240 Interchange on Kennewick SidePosted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- For the next six to eight months, drivers can expect some delays and changes coming to the US 395 and State Route 240 interchange.
Right now when drivers go over the Blue Bridge into Kennewick, and want to go to 395, you eventually have to merge to the right. And to go along 240 drivers have to stay on the left lane or take either lane.
Moe Davari is the project engineer and shows us how it's changing.
"We'll have two lanes when you get off the Blue Bridge that way you can continue two lanes on 395, and they'll have a single lane off 395, will continue on 240 westbound for Columbia Center," said Davari.
DOT says two third of drivers take the 395 ramp while only one third use 240. The drive to and from Columbia Drive will also be different.
"Remove those existing loop ramps and rebuild the interchange and build a couple roundabouts out there," said Davari.
The State Patrol is hoping the changes will reduce congestion.
"We generally on that bridge have anywhere from about 140 to 175 collisions per year," said Lieutenant Jay Cabezuela, with the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers are asking drivers to be patient.
"Spend extra time to map out some detour routes so you don't find yourself in the slowdowns and congestion points," said Cabezuela.
DOT staff say the first road closures are scheduled toward the end of March. They'll have weekly updates of all this construction on their website under the traffic tab.
