Beltre Weighs Whether To Defy M's

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Adrian Beltre says he wants a few more days
to decide whether to defy the Mariners and play in the World
Baseball Classic.

The Gold Glove third baseman said Wednesday morning he has
received permission from the Dominican Republic's WBC team to play
a couple of spring-training games for Seattle before making his

Beltre wants to test the shoulder he had surgically repaired
last September, but he wonders when the Mariners are going to let
him play.

He was not in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon's game against
San Diego.

Beltre is on the final WBC roster. The Mariners have already
told him they don't want him to play.

Beltre, who has played hurt for years, says he knows how bad it
would look to defy his employer that is paying him $12 million in
the final year of his contract.
