Stimulus money for Yakima PD will go to combat tagging
YAKIMA--The Yakima Police Department has decided what a good portion of their $331,000 criminal justice assistant grant will go to fight tagging.
City officials want to use the money to clean up and prevent tagging.
Yakima received the grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
City leaders hope this big chunk of money will help tackle crime problems.
"We make good use of the money and it's having an impact on crime," Chief Sam Granato, Yakima Police Department, said. "We intend to carry that forward. I think that's a big factor [to getting more funding]."
Granato said the department got more than 12 times as much money as last year, when they received about $25,000.
The big increase is thanks to the federal stimulus package.
City officials hope to have plans in place by March 19.
