YAKIMA--A proposed parking expansion for Yakima Valley Community College gets the green light from the city, but what about the people living on that property?
The apartment complex at 1311 West Arlington Avenue and two houses on 14th avenue will be knocked down and paved over to add more spots for students.
Parking's become pretty tight around the YVCC campus. This expansion will add 48 spots.
But, it's squeezing out the four families living in the apartments.
"I have four kids and so I have to find a place to live," Tisha Froman said. "I have to pay deposit [to rent a different apartment] and everything, so it's kind of hard."
Froman said she got a notice on Tuesday that she has to move out by the end of the month. She says her family had no notice before that. The other two houses are vacant.
A YVCC representative said that the demolition and construction will start in mid-April. The college expects construction to be done by August.
