Former Richland Band Teacher Accused of Having Sex With Student Gets Sentenced
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Allen Eve pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
The Benton County Prosecutor, Andy Miller, says a felony charge against Eve was dismissed, because the judge ruled having sex with an 18-year-old is not a crime. Local and state legislators are working to change that right now.
Another charge of assault with sexual molestation was also dropped. Eve was sentenced to 75 days in jail, which Miller says is normal for a gross misdemeanor.
"We wanted to get a resolution to the case and hold him accountable but also get closure for the victims, who have now moved on with their lives and have now started going to college, and we didn't want this case to linger forever," said Miller.
Miller says Eve has lost his teaching certificate. He was a teacher at Richland High School for 13 years before resigning last November.
He's also required to register as a sex offender and will be on probation for two years.
