WSP Investigating Non-Traffic Related Fatal Accident Near Zillah

NEAR MATTAWA, Wash. -- A Sunnyside man is dead and five others are injured after a three car accident on State Route 243, 11 miles south of Mattawa Tuesday evening.

Washington State Police say 63-year-old Antonio Magana was killed when the car he was riding in was hit in the rear, pushed into the southbound lanes, and hit by an on-coming car.

Troopers say 32-year-old Ryan Angle of West Richland was slowing down on SR 243 near milepost 3 for traffic, when 40-year-old Joseph Switzer of Maple Valley hit the back of Angle's car.

Angle's car then went into the southbound lane, and was hit by a car driven by 37-year-old Mario Perez Gonzalez of Sunnyside.

Troopers say Magana was not wearing a seat belt when the accident happened.

The five injured were taken to Kadlec Regional Center in Richland. One of the injured was later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. WSP says drugs or alcohol was not involved.
