KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Tri-City Regional SWAT Team will now be able to handle stressful situations more effectively thanks to a new piece of equipment. The team introduced its new SWAT robot Thursday in Kennwick.
The robot produces high resolution images, maneuvers tough obstacles and even opens doors.
Officers say the new addition is a huge upgrade and will be used during barricade and hostage situations.
"We can put the robot inside before we have to put actual officers inside a structure and if we can locate where the subject is, then we can start to change some of the things we do," said Jeremy TAylor, a member of the SWAT Team
The Community Enrichment Foundation donated the robot which cost $57,000.
