(NBC News) The Food and Drug Administration is banning artificial trans fats from the american food supply.
Trans fats are found in many fried foods and baked goods, and they keep packaged products from expiring so quickly.
Now the shelf life of trans fats themselves is coming to an end. The FDA has given the food industry three years to get rid of the artery-clogging fats.
Studies show trans fat raises bad cholesterol and lowers good cholesterol, increasing the risk of heart disease.
