Bluewood Ski Resort being sold to new owners

DAYTON, Wash. -- Bluewood Ski Resort, near Dayton, is in the process of being sold to new owners.

Mike and Kelly Stephenson of Kennewick will take over the resort. Mike Stephenson is a PSIA Certified Level III ski instructor and is currently the Training Director at the ski school. He has over 15 years of experience at Bluewood. Kelly Stephenson is a PSIA Certified Level I ski instructor.

Plans are to open and operate the ski area for the 2010-11 seasons. Once the sale is complete, the new owners have agreed to honor all current season passes that have been sold and resume sales of passes for the upcoming season.

KNDU spoke to Mike Stephenson who said, "My kids grew up on that mountain and the thought of it going away and other kids and families not having that opportunity really just inspired us to do whatever we could to keep that mountain open."

Former owners Stan and Nancy Goodell retired. The Stephenson's are forming a limited liability company to purchase the resort.

Bluewood is also looking for seasonal help. Jobs range from operating the lifts to being a ski instructor. Click here for job details.
