KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The Census Bureau is looking for workers in Eastern Washington.
Anyone who is over 18 and legal to work in the country is eligible to apply. Census staff in Spokane say their first operation will start on April 20th.
They hope to hire 1,100 new workers by then. And by May of 2010 they will most likely double the number of new employees.
The positions available include field work and finding addresses with the help of a hand-held computer. Census staff say they hope these jobs will provide some relief to many who are unemployed.
"I do hope that people who do want to work will apply, I hope it does in some way help some people with I know it is a lousy economy at the present time," said Brian Kennedy, Office Manager in Spokane.
Census staff also say if you are hired you'll be getting paid anywhere from $11.75 to $13.25 an hour. Training and mileage are also paid.
One thing to keep in mind is that census jobs are temporary. A census bureau office is scheduled to open in the Tri-Cities sometime this Summer.
