KENNEWICK, Wash. - One year ago 17-year-old Danielle Moreno made a frantic call to 911. Minutes later, the teen and her mother Linda were shot to death in their Kennewick home.
The past year has been filled with emptiness, pain and anger for everyone who loved Linda and Danielle.
"I never expected it. I never expected to burry my wife and daughter especially not my daughter," said widower Loren Moreno.
While the reality of the deaths set in last August, the suspected gunman had stolen Linda's purse and had spent the cash inside. Days later James Moran shot and killed himself when he was cornered by police near Portland, Oregon.
"I still want answers," said Moreno. He said he doesn't know if they'll ever come.
Kennewick Police Detectives said almost everyone who could give information on the case has also heavily used drugs making their statements untrustworthy. Detectives said they still do not know why Moran picked the Moreno's to victimize.
Loren said the memory of two beautiful lives will not be overshadowed by their brutal killings.
Friends and family are planning a picnic at Columbia Park on Tuesday to remember the Morenos.
