TRI-CITIES, Wash. - The Benton Franklin Health Department inspects all of the restaurants in town and posts the findings on their website.
About twice a year each eating establishment is evaluated with a point system. It is like golf, the lower the score the better the place did.
The Health Department looks at everything from labels to overall cleanliness.
Benton Franklin Health Department Official Susan Shelton said, "More people are choosing where to eat from online. I have heard people tell me they are only eating at certain places that get a certain percentage. What I like about it is that is helps people become aware of what their rights are as a consumer."
Improper hand washing and food not kept at the right temperature are two consistent problems the department has seen.
The online food inspection part of the site has been running since last May. Below is the link. http://www.bfhd.wa.gov/food/index.php
