YAKIMA, Wash -- Darren Long plans to succeed where others have failed. Long, and his sister Danette, are re-opening the restaurant at the Yakima Airport.
Last August, The Flight Deck, the old airport lounge and bar, closed after its owners decided they could no longer afford to keep it open. One year later, the Longs are giving it a go, and plan to open on October 1st.
Darren Long is no stranger to running a restaurant in Yakima. He currently owns Michael's All Star Tavern on Tieton Drive.
His new venture is called the Barnstormers, after the World War I era flying circuses that traveled the country. He plans on selling traditional American food -- burgers and beers. And thinks the growth, both at the airport, and around it, will propel him to success.
Over the next six weeks the Longs plan on renovating the space, and filling it with aviation memorabilia.
