PASCO, WA - A 52-year-old Pasco man is charged with two counts of kidnapping.
Pasco Police were first called about the case on Friday, June 14, at around 4:30 in the afternoon.
According to court documents, a man said his two nephews - 7 years old and 3 years old - went missing from his neighborhood while he was doing yard work. He and a friend were looking around when they found them in a stranger's car, laying down in the backseat.
The stranger was identified as Jose Lopez-Gonzalez.
The men found the car on Butte Street, a block away from the uncle's house. The uncle got the boys out of the car and started questioning the man, stalling until officers arrived. The man told the boys' uncle that he knew the children and was taking them to Walmart to buy them toys.
Police say Lopez-Gonzalez said he had been joking about taking the boys to Walmart and couldn't explain why he was in that neighborhood.
The uncle says he'd noticed the car driving around the area earlier in the day.
Officers arrested Lopez-Gonzalez, and his bail was set at $50,000. He posted bond and has a no-contact order.
PPD says: "It’s always a good time to talk to your children about potential stranger-danger, about who your children can trust in the neighborhood, and about how your children can always ask for a uniformed police officer to come help them. If your child is old enough, it’s important that they know your full name and hopefully their address or your phone number."
