PARKER, WA - A family is now being assisted by Red Cross after their home in Parker, near Yakima, was damaged by a fire.

Yakima County Fire District 5 was dispatched to the home in the 100 block of Parker St. at 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18. The fire was on the outside of the home and the residents were evacuating.

When firefighters arrived, the front of the house and porch were burning and the fire was spreading into the attic space. With the help of one City of Yakima fire engine, the fire was contained to half of the roof and attic, with a partial roof collapse.

There was little fire damage to the living area of the house, with mostly smoke and water damage.

Red Cross is assisting the family with lodging, clothing and food.

The investigation into the cause of the fire has been turned over to the Yakima County Fire Marshal’s office.
