Students remember an influential teacher

KENNEWICK, Wash.—A well-known and influential member of the local community passed away on Friday.  62-year-old David Lemak died after a long battle with cancer.

Lemak was the Director of the Bachelor of Applied Science Program at Columbia Basin College and prior to that a professor at Washington State University Tri-Cities.  He also served in the air force for 20 years.  However, students say he was more than just his accomplishments; he changed lives.

"I am a lot better just by meeting him," says Chase Walters, CBC student.

"Encouraging me to reach my full potential and keeping me motivated, especially after everything he's gone through.  He gave us the determination," says Liz Mayson, CBC student.

The funeral is Tuesday at 1:30pm at the Richland Church of Christ.  It is open to the public, and Lemak's wife tells KNDU he would want the community to be there.
